Every other device in the house will slow to a crawl once the xbox is on, its so bad even the modems admin menus slow down. Once the xbox is off and and not connected everything goes back to how it should be. I have put in custom network settings, given it a static ip with a dmz, and set that ip to allow xbox live under the ports, and i use open dns for everything.
CapwnD 6 years ago 2. I can appreciate what you're trying to do using a faster dns service, forwarding ports for better connections , but you're possibly causing problems and not helping by doing some of the things you're doing. You don't forward ports to a device that is in the DMZ. It doesn't make sense. When it's in the DMZ, that means it's receiving and sending all traffic on all ports. Forwarding to that device doesn't make sense. Your ISP will use one that is close by proximity.
When specifying a DNS you might be making your traffic travel further than it has to. I suggest to leave it automatic, and turn up the lease time in the DHCP settings so that device will keep that same IP address for a longer time. And if the address changes, then change the other stuff accordingly DMZ, port forwarding to match the new IP address that is automatically getting assigned. You shouldn't' have to forward ports or use DMZ at all. If you do, then there's probably something else wrong with your network.
UPNP alone should be enough. Post your modem model number and your router model number if you want more help. This network analyst speaks the truth.
CapwnD 6 years ago 4. I would like to be a network analyst, but unfortunately I don't even work in the computer field at all. CapwnD 6 years ago 5. You want to improve your network and maybe even get a little more speed than what you're already getting, then try IPv6.
If your router doesn't support it, you can check if your ISP supports it by hooking up a PC directly to the modem will have to reboot the modem and PC of course and go to an IPv6 test site. If your ISP supports it and your router doesn't, then get a better router. Best Smartwatches. Best Gaming Laptops. Best Smart Displays. Best Home Security Systems. Best External Solid State Drives.
