Like nearly every bar in California, the pandemic has really screwed up business. We're not thriving anymore. But we're not sinking. Longtime bartender Sheau-Wha Mau has taken on the role of events coordinator, planning new nights of activities like karaoke and booking DJs that will help bring folks back in. The good news is that the bar is still open seven days a week, even on holidays. I think all the new age San Franciscans want high-end cocktails or to stay home and Netflix and chill and Uber their liquor.
Many places have to upgrade for them to come in, but I want to keep an old vibe. They even put in new drainage! I thought if you keep it nice, no one will touch it, but it's not true. Of course, the graffiti was already steadily creeping back, but at least the place smelled better.
